During the tournament 66 bonefish were caught and released with 19 inches being the longest bonefish. The most bonefish caught came from the
GoFish Belize team with 16.
There were 16 Permit caught and release with 24 inches being the longest and with the 1st place Pro team getting the lion's share of 3.
Three tarpon were released with 37 inches being the longest with all 3 being caught by different teams.
Two Grand Slams were accomplished by Fly Treks and Shake-N-Bake with Fly Treks getting a daily Grand Slam.
The 2009 Tres Pescado Slam tournament opened to high winds with the day's numbers being estimated at mediocre at best. However,
the teams broke through all barriers overcoming the winds and bringing in Permit, Bonefish and a Tarpon. Team AM Films led the day 1 Pro
division with 150 points consisting of 1 Permit and 3 Bonefish while GoFish Belize cornered the Amateur division with 5 Bonefish and 1 Permit.
Day 2 brought normal winds with high hopes of Tarpon for this day. The hopes were dashed when the teams returned with tales of tough
fishing among the days hour long storm dumping some major water. The day was made up of low numbers of Bonefish, one Permit and one Tarpon with the exception of the GoFish Belize team that
remained consistent with 6 Bonefish. Day 2 brought a leader change on the scoreboard with the day 1 second place team, Shake-N-Bake climbing over the
leader, AM Films, by 103.5 points with a total of 269 that included 100 bonus points for their 1st Grand Slam of the tournament. AM Films followed with 165.5 and Fly Treks bringing in 3rd with 133 points after releasing their
first Permit of the tourney and grabbing the 75 bonus points. GoFish Belize blew by to hold the Amateur lead with another 99.5 points.
Day 3 brought on the pressure for the guides and teams to perform. With almost all teams still having a real shot at the lead, another
great Caribbean weather day was underway and the starting line chatter was all about tarpon. But when they returned it was all about Bones and one amazing daily Grand Slam
from the Fly Treks team that rocketed them into 1st place, that is until the leader, Shake-N-Bake, returned with another 59 points of Bonefish to take the overall tournament 1st place. The big surprise and come-from-behind
team was Pair-A-Docs. The 2 fly fishers with their guide Tayo Verde hammered the water all day in everything from the normal flats to neck high water where Bonefish and Barracuda were the days
order. The pair released 10 bonefish for 155.5 points and jumped from the 5th spot to take the 3rd place trophy and cash. GoFish Belize continued with yet another
85.5 points of bonefish, truly the bonefish catch-and-release team of the tournament.
The tournament closed on Saturday evening at the Caster's Banquet hosted by the San Pedro Lions Club and with over 100 in attendance. The event was celebrated with awards, trophies, cash and great food prepared by Lion member Shelly. The Tournament
presented Mayor Elsa Paz with the Perpetual Tres Pescado Slam Tournament trophy that will remain in San Pedro with the winners' names added each year. The finale was the presentation of a check for $10,000 to Green Reef for help
in the protection and research of the 3 grand slam fish. This non-profit event also collected very valuable data by conducting the country's first fish census that will help
establish a census baseline for the future. In addition, fin clip DNA samples were collect by the teams and will be forwarded to Bonefish and Tarpon Trust scientists.
